Breakdown of the number of TikTok users by country

According to the latest data on TikTok’s advertising reach, the United States is home to the majority of TikTok users worldwide, with 113.3 million TikTokers residing there.

Analysts say TikTok’s popularity in the US skyrocketed following its merger with Musical.ly in 2018. Prior to that, there were fewer than 10 million monthly active users on the platform. But in the months following the merger, the number of TikTok users grew exponentially. It surpassed Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube in the number of downloads, and even prompted Facebook to launch a rival service, Lasso. Incidentally, four of the five most-followed people on TikTok are also located in the US.

The country with the second-highest number of TikTok users is Indonesia. The most populous country in Southeast Asia has 109.9 million TikTok users. Despite a temporary ban in 2018 by the government, the social media app is extremely popular among Indonesians.

Third on the list ranking TikTok users by country is Brazil, with over 82 million TikTokers located there. It is also one of TikTok’s fastest-growing markets, as the app invests heavily in marketing campaigns there.

This is followed by Mexico, with around 57.5 million TikTok users. Rounding out the top five countries where TikTok users are located is Russia, home to 54.9 million users. TikTok is the fifth-most-popular social media app there, behind VK, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Odnoklassniki.

Here’s a look at numbers six to 10 on the list ranking TikTok users by country:

  1. Vietnam: 49.9 million
  2. Philippines: 43.4 million
  3. Thailand: 40.3 million
  4. Turkey: 29.9 million
  5. Saudi Arabia: 26.4 million

The breakdown of TikTok users by country shows that, despite launching only in 2016, TikTok has managed to penetrate some of the world’s most populous countries across various continents.
