How Many People Use Snapchat? (2014–2024)

In 2023, Snapchat’s user growth hit 10.4%. Despite the annual increase, it was a slight slowdown from the previous year’s rise of 17.6% and 12.2 percentage points slower than the average annual growth rate of 22.6% from 2015 to 2023.

According to the latest statistics, as of the first quarter of 2024, the number of Snapchat users opening the app every day hit 422 million. This represents a 1.9% increase from the previous quarter. 

It is also a 10.2% year-on-year rise, after adding 39 million in one year. Over this period, the network saw its number of daily users rise in all regions of the world it tracks.

Snapchat monthly active users

Unlike other popular social networks like Facebook and Pinterest, which report on the number of monthly active users (MAU), Snapchat's metric of choice to measure its user count is daily active users (DAU). 

That said, the company recently announced in February 2024 that its number of monthly active users had hit 800 million. Snapchat has also recently reported that the number of monthly active users on Spotlight, one of the app’s newest features, which promotes short-form video content, grew by 51% year over year to surpass 400 million in Q2 2023.

Comparing end-of-year data, we see that the number of Snapchat users has largely risen over the past decade. 

In 2014, there were 71 million Snapchat users. This surged by 50.7% the following year, to 107 million, marking the biggest year-over-year increase between 2014 and 2023. Another year of strong growth followed in 2016, as the number of Snapchat users increased by 47.7%, to 158 million.

This continued to rise, hitting 187 million in 2017, before a marginal decrease of 0.5% in 2018 brought the number of Snapchat users down slightly to 186 million. Half a decade of annual increases at an average rate of 17.4% followed, which pushed the number to 414 million in 2023.

According to Snapchat’s latest quarterly report, as of Q1 2024, 100 million of its 422 million daily users are located in North America. This accounts for nearly one-quarter (23.7%) of its user base. Another 96 million, or 22.7%, are in Europe, while the remaining are scattered across the rest of the world.

Focusing on the country breakdown, recent data indicates that India boasts the largest number of Snapchat users. There are 202.5 million Snapchat users in India.

The United States comes next, with 105.7 million. India and the US are the only two countries with over 100 million Snapchat users. Pakistan follows in third place, with 31.9 million. Two European countries, France and the United Kingdom, complete the top five, with 27 million and 23.1 million, respectively.
